The Graffiti of Kirchheim

Heidelberg is a larger city than I expected, and I think I've said as much. My host family lives in a small Heidelberg suburb called Kirchheim ("church-town"). My bike ride to downtown (and my school) is about 20 minutes, and I get to pass some really pretty sights. Perhaps my favorite is the under the bridge about 5 minutes from my residence, a street lined with graffitied concrete walls. I went for a closer look yesterday, a school and state holiday here, and the teens/young-twentyishes were taking the day to perfect their art as the younger kids skated on the nearby quarter pipes.

Making a fresh canvas.

Every possible place to spray that isn't a work of art is scratch for testing cans.

Adding the shine to another piece with a can of white paint.

This picture cut out the beer, but since there are no open-container laws here, the artists were causally sipping cold ones.

A finished piece.

I couldn't convince the artist of this one to get in the picture.

One of my favorites.

Panorama of under the bridge.

The same piece up close.

Panorama of the street from under the bridge.

Street from the skatepark above.
